MISS England semi-finalist Sophie Williams is hoping the people of Redditch will get behind as she bids for the top prize.
The 22-year-old from Greenlands is no stranger to the limelight having already done some modelling and been scouted a couple of times while on shopping trips to Birmingham.
“I’m six foot tall and quite a few people have come up to me in the past, but I always thought I was too young to go down that route but now I’m a bit older I decided to apply for the competition,” said the sales administrator with Redditch-based Proteus Switchgear.
The Miss England competition in the age of coronavirus is considerably different from the catwalk of women in bathing costumes of yesteryear.
“I had to submit a video of myself which was quite difficult as I live on my own and ended up taking my phone to the wall,” said Sophie.
She also had to describe what for her were the best and worst bits about lockdown and highlight a campaign against single use plastic (https://wasupme.com).
In addition she had to raise the profile of and collect unused cosmetics and toiletries for a West Midlands women’s refuge as part of https://elleforelle.org.uk – a campaign against domestic violence, a subject close to Sophie’s heart.
There a three official judges with the voting public acting as the fourth.
To progress from the Midlands semi-finals Sophie will be relying on local votes to see her through.
