Mindless vandals damage Bomford Hill Peace Memorial in Church Hill

Redditch Editorial 8th Nov, 2019   0

MINDLESS vandals have damaged the Bomford Hill Peace Memorial in Church Hill.

The alarm was raised late on Tuesday night when a member of the public found the concrete surrounding two time capsules at the memorial – only buried last month – had been smashed.

Bomford Hill has been a popular spot for watching the fireworks go off around the town.

The memorial only opened last year to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

Last month two time capsules were buried at the site by schoolchildren from Moons Moat First School and Church Hill Middle RSA Academy.

“To say we are disgusted is an understatement,” said Ian Johnson of Church Hill Big Local which helped create the memorial.

“It’s a peace memorial for goodness sake – it’s utterly appalling.”
