Mindless vandals cover Upperfield Close Park in paint

MINDLESS vandals covered Upperfield Close Park in paint last Friday, February 21, writes Shivani Chaudhari.

The incident is said to have taken place in the evening and was reported to the police by a local resident the following day.

Councillor Mike Rouse (Con, Church Hill) said: “This is a disgraceful act of criminal damage especially as the park was only upgraded in 2018.

“We don’t want to have to put CCTV cameras in the area because it’s expensive and intrusive.

“Local parents and families use the park but as the sun sets there are a few people who like to use the park for other purposes.

“However, the community’s response has been fantastic.”

Local residents have said they will help with the clean up operation which is to be spearheaded by Redditch Borough Council.

Coun Rouse added: “Specialist equipment will be used to clean up the paint but the Borough Council can not do the work immediately because we are still helping people with Storm Dennis.”

Anyone with information is urged to call West Mercia Police on 101.
