Men to don heels for a good cause

THE MEN of Redditch will once again be slipping into something a little more uncomfortable as they totter around the town centre in heels to promote an international campaign.

Borough council leader Bill Hartnett is set to lead a group of men wearing high heels on Friday, November 28, as part of the 16 Days of Action against domestic abuse.

The annual event will begin with a pre-brief from 1pm in the Town Hall council chamber before officially starting at 2pm.

Coun Hartnett said: “I am proud to say that I am participating in the Heels Walk again this year and would encourage as many men as possible to get involved.

“It requires a lot of courage to put on a pair of ladies shoes and be seen wearing them, but it’s nothing compared to the courage needed by victims of domestic abuse to come forward for help.

“Taking part in the walk really puts things into perspective and it is one small way of publically showing support to all victims and survivors of abuse.”

Other events throughout the 16 days, which runs from November 25 to December 10, include an information stand in the Kingfisher Centre on Thursday (November 27), a theatre performance and workshop at Tudor Grange Academy, information assemblies at Trinity High School and a #shoeselfies project at Trinity and RSA Academy Arrow Vale.

To take part in the Heels Walk, send an e-mail to [email protected] marked for the attention of Alasdair Baker, community safety project officer.
