Meadow View? There's a digger at the front door say angry residents

FED-UP Redditch residents say Persimmon Homes and their contractors have been making their lives hell – with juggernauts loaded with construction material arriving outside their doors at 7 o’clock in the morning.

Not content with that work has started five minutes later just metres from people’s front doors, which they say is in breach of the Control of Pollution Act 1974.

Street cleaners have been turning up at 8.30pm when most people are trying to settle for the evening and even on Saturdays work has continued until 4.30pm.

If that wasn’t enough it’s been going on for four whole months.

It’s all been happening on the Meadow View development in Brockhill East and residents say it’s the result of the borough council’s initial failure to impose a construction management plan on the developer.

One resident said: “The council’s abandonment of residents who live right next to this work is appalling, a construction plan should have been in place to mitigate disruption to residents who live mere feet from the work, especially when the working hours that they are keeping fall outside anything that would be reasonably agreed by the council.

“The noise, vibration, dust etc from the site is extremely disruptive, with it taking place between two metres and 10 metres from approximately 50 residences.

“We on the Meadow View estate are extremely disappointed that Persimmon have been allowed by Redditch Borough Council to create as much noise and disruption as they like, with no regard for current residents.”

A spokesperson for the council said: “We take the concerns of our residents very seriously and have twice raised these matters with Persimmon Homes over the last two weeks.

“As a result, the planning department have been given further assurances by Persimmon that work will not be undertaken beyond the hours indicated in the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).

“We will continue to monitor the site to make sure this happens.”

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes South Midlands said: “It has been brought to our attention that some ground preparation works have been taking place at the Meadow View development prior to the permitted start time of 8am and running over the 1pm deadline on Saturdays.

“This should not be happening.

“We apologise to any residents who may have been disturbed by this activity and we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure there is no repetition.”
