BOROUGH Mayor and ward Councillor Gareth Prosser was on hand to officially open the new Co-op store at Crabbs Cross.
On the site of the Fleece pub on Evesham Road, the opening follows a £750,000 investment by the Co-op and will support 17 local jobs, including six new ones.
The new 2,500 sq ft is around two-thirds larger than Co-op’s previous store which was located further down the road, with a larger back-of-shop area and warehousing to improve choice, range and availability.
It will be open daily from 6am to 10pm daily, and includes customer car parking, a bakery, Amazon Lockers, John Lewis Click and Collect and Costa coffee express, alongside everyday essentials.
Students in Redditch who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – can pocket a ten per cent discount off groceries at the Co-op.
Store manager Pete Wainwright said: “We have had a great response, it is very exciting to launch a new Co-op store and create new jobs, the store has a fantastic new look, increased range and customer car parking.
“We are very much looking forward to serving the local community from our new store.”
