THE start of a new academic term at Ridgeway Academy will see a new deputy headteacher.

Matt Ball joined the Evesham Road school halfway through the last term. He met pupils at the end of last term to ensure there was a smooth handover with the outgoing deputy.

“Ridgeway Academy is a good school and I amexcited to be working with the rest of the leadership team as we move forward into its next stage of development,” he said.

Mr Ball has previously taught at a large comprehensive in Gloucestershire where he was assistant headteacher in a school of more than 1,000 pupils.

Ridgeway is a former middle school which took the leap a few years ago to become a secondary.

Headteacher Mike Bennett said: “We are delighted that Mr Ball is joining our team and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him.”

Matt is not the only new member of staff; Ridgeway has recruited new five teachers and all will be be bringing secondary knowledge and skills to the academy as it sees its first Year 11 cohort start in September since their age change was approved.
