A COUPLE who were killed in a crash on the M42 near Redditch have been named.

Driver Christopher Metcalf and his wife Evelyn Metcalf died in a three car incident on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 3 and 3a near Beoley about 1am on Monday (July 14).

The pair, aged 77 and 71 and from Crewe, were both confirmed dead at the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Sadly, despite attempts at advanced life support by ambulance crews and the medic, nothing could be done to save them and both were confirmed dead on scene.”

The driver of the second car – a man in his 50s – had to be cut free by firefighters and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital with a chest injury.

The driver of the third car was uninjured.

The northbound carriageway of the motorway was closed for nine hours while police carried out investigation work and eventually re-opened about 10am.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have been travelling on the M42 northbound between the junctions about the time of the incident.

Anyone with any information should contact Police on 101.
