THE final re-surfacing work on Alcester High Street the work is about to be undertaken.

Over the last few years several large scale improvements have been undertaken in the market town to improve the quality and standard of the roads for residents and visitors.

Now during the next two months two schemes – together valued at £200,000, will be undertaken.

The first will entail the replacement of the Birmingham Road surface, from the entry to Alcester to the Grammar School. The work will be undertaken in half term week, starting February 20 and a one way system, out of town, will be implemented for the week.

The second, and more testing scheme, will be for the complete replacement of the High Street road surface from St Nicholas Church, Church Street, Henley Street to the junction with School Road.

The road surface here has suffered from construction work over the years to improve flood risk and service provision.

An added complication will be the proximity of the mediaeval Alcester town hall and special arrangements will be put in place to ensure the safety of the building.

This work will require a complete road closure from March 6-10.

County councillor Mike Gittus pledged he and town ward member Coun Eric Payne would be working closely with agencies, residents and shopkeepers to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

“It’s wonderful to see Warwickshire county council continue to invest in Alcester, long acknowledged as Warwickshire’s premier market town.”
