REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean said the Worcestershire Acute Hospital NHS Trust had told her a fully-costed plan to return the Garden Suite to the Alex would be presented to the Board this month.
Mrs Maclean claimed she was continuing to hold local health bosses to account over the chemotherapy service’s return which was confirmed in February after its temporary relocation to Kidderminster Hospital during the pandemic.
There were fears it could have been made permanent after health bosses said they were exploring the option.
This resulted in Mrs Maclean launching a petition, signed by more than 8,000, residents, which called for the service to be returned to the Alex.
Mrs Maclean has met with Trust bosses a number of times to press for the service to be returned as soon as possible.
She said: “I remain grateful to the Trust that they listened to the voices of patients and my constituents and made the commitment to return the Garden Suite to the Alex where it belongs.
“I’m continuing to hold them to account to ensure this service is returned as soon as possible.
“I met with them again just recently and they told me a fully costed plan to return the Garden Suite will be presented to the Board in July.
“Progress is clearly being made.
“However, although I appreciate work is underway to return the Garden Suite, there can be no dither and delay, especially when I have constituents who are still travelling to Kidderminster for their treatment.”
