THE bells are ringing out in Studley for the publication of a new book – ‘60 Years of Bell Ringing in the Parish Church, Studley. Recollections 1957-2017’.

Written by local resident and renowned bell ringer Richard Spray, it’s a celebration the characters and nature of bell ringing at the ancient parish church of St Mary’s on the banks of the River Arrow in Studley.

Richard was prompted to write the book as 2017 marked the 60th anniversary of the augmentation of the Studley bells from five to six.

His book looks back at the 1957 restoration and further augmentation to eight bells to commemorate the Millennium.

In A5 format it contains 28 pages plus card covers with colour and black and white images illustrating the text.

“These bells don’t ring themselves, there are people doing it and the intention was the give the history of those people and an understanding of the bells, when they were put in place, and to relate what has been going on there for the last 60 years,” said Richard.
