DOZENS of kittens urgently need new homes to help ease the pressure on a Hopwood cat sanctuary.
Staff at Cramar Cat Rescue and Sanctuary have just welcomed two new litters taking their total to more than 50 animals. And four of their new arrivals had to be housed in a large dog crate for their first night as that was the only space available to the hard-pressed helpers.
“We are overflowing but we still won’t turn away kittens.” said Carol Lowe, chairwoman of the trustees.
“There are at least 50 kittens here and that’s in addition to the ones we have with our foster homes – kittens that are a little timid or scared.
“We had a very good month for rehousing kittens in June and that really helped the situation. But we are full again now and also have at least 60 adult cats – and that’s not including the mums who came in with their kittens.”
At the weekend, staff found four kittens left in a cat carrier on the drive of the Hopwood centre.
She added: “We will never know the story behind these new arrivals but it is probably the familiar story of someone not taking that important responsible step and having their female cat spayed and then finding themselves the owners of a litter of kittens and not knowing what to do.”
