Kevin’s in the frame for art debut in Redditch

A REDDITCH artist is hosting his debut solo exhibition this month and raising money for the Primrose Hospice at the same time.

Kevin Wills, who has been painting since he was a student at St Augustine’s High School, has organised a one night only solo exhibition and auction at Bella Barba on Evesham Road on November 18.

From 7pm, punters can browse Kevin’s work which draws influences from the Pop Art movement and focuses mainly on monochrome pieces, with the odd splash of colour.

Bromsgrove-born Kevin is encouraging people to come down and take a look at his work, which has been inspired by his travels.

“I feel like I always wanted to be an artist,” said the 39-year-old.

“I remember drawing as a child and with my grandad and adding things around pictures, but at school they always told me to stay in the lines.

“Most of my teaching came from art and design at high school but really got into it whilst travelling Asia and Australia.

“I picked painting back up then, working for a local artist during the day and painting at night.

“I started experimenting in monochrome because I feel it invokes an emotion that you can see without colours, just stripped down bare black and white.”

As well as showcasing his paintings, the exhibition will also feature an auction raising money for local charity, the Primrose Hospice.

“We’re going to be holding a charity auction and a raffle for two pieces of art with the proceeds going to Primrose, which is a charity is very close to my family and friends,” he added.

Kevin lives in Oakenshaw with his wife Amy and their two children.
