Jessops pulls down the shutters in Redditch's Kingfisher Shopping Centre

THE Redditch branch of Jessops has closed.

The shop, in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, was situated on the corner of Milward Square at the end of Walford Walk.

The camera retailer, which also did photo reprints as well as printing pictures on to canvas and other items, failed to renew its lease with the Kingfisher.

Ken Williams, manager of the Kingfisher said: “We were in discussions about a new lease but they elected not to renew it.

“However it provides us with another opportunity to look at what we can do with that space when we get the shop handed back to us.”

Just last week the local branch of travel agent Thomas Cook closed after the failure of its parent company and Mr Williams said they would be looking for other businesses in the travel industry to fill that vacancy.

“We will continue to have churn and change which is going on all the time,” he said.

“It’s important to note though that Primark has just had a complete refit which is a demonstration of confidence in Redditch and CEX are looking at opening a new store in the centre.

“we also have a number of businesses investing in their own shops which puts money into the local economy.”

Jessops went into administration six years ago but the brand was bought up by a group including Peter Jones who stars in the BBC2 hit Dragon’s Den and re-opened several stores nationwide, including Redditch.
