THERE’S prizes to be won as the team at great Redditch charity Carers Careline saddle up for a six hour bikeathon.
It’s all happening at Caffe Nero in Evesham Walk on Thursday, April 14 from 10am to 4pm and as well as popping in to enjoy their favourite brew visitors are being asked to guess-timate how many miles the team will pedal over the six hours.
And with a static bike borrowed from Puregym it’s hoped they’ll be able to pile on the distance.
Charity trustee David Heaselgrave, who’s organising the event, said the aim was two-fold – to raise a bit of money for Carers Careline, but also to raise its profile.
“There are so many unpaid carers in this town and across the country, many of whom don’t even realise they’re carers if they’re looking after a loved one, family member or neighbour.
“Carers Careline in Redditch helps more than 200 people across the borough but we want people to know the support network is out there to help them.”
The charity’s chief officer Erica Gibson Di Meo said they run monthly coffee meetings at Aroma Cafe in Church Green East, sponsored by Affy Quadeer, as well as three to four support groups every month.
“Our ambition is to provide respite care for people, fully paid, for those who need it,” she said.
Carers Careline also runs a bereavement sercice, which, although funded by the charity is open to everybody.
David added: “The thing about Carers Careline is that it’s not a great big national charity, it’s a local charity, run by local people for local people and it’s based at the Ecumenical Centre right in the town centre.”
Carers Careline is open Monday to Thursday and can be contacted on 01527 66177 at https://carerscareline.co.uk/ or on Facebook, or pop in and see the team at Caffe Nero on Thursday and show your support.
