OVER 1200 people turned out on Thursday evening to watch the lighting of Alcester Towns Beacon at Centenary Field to mark the beginning of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event was organised by Alcester Town Council and the local branch of The Royal British Legion.

There were Union Jack’s galore at the event with plenty of bunting spread across the field and wrapped around the beacon itself.

The festivities began at 6pm with plenty of family fun including fancy dress, while refreshments were available throughout the evening.

Later on in the evening, the Alcester Victoria Silver Band provided some patriotic music.

The local Town Crier made The Royal Proclamation, and he was followed by the Alcester Town combined choirs, who performed the Jubilee Anthem.

Church bells rang out and the national anthem was sung in full voice prior to the incredible lighting of the beacon.

The beacon lighting was one of over 2022 similar events across the UK and the Commonwealth to mark the beginning of Her Majesty’s Jubilee weekend.
