REDDITCH local History Society has relaunched its monthly meetings at the Oasis Christian Centre.
Starting from Monday, August 13, at 2pm with a talk by club secretary Anthony Green on the ‘History of Needles’.
“Five years ago I gave a talk on the Fishhook industry,” he said.
“I am now working on a book on Redditch industry and the first chapter is, obviously, the needle industry.
“In this talk I look at the beginning of needles and how they found their way to Redditch and the success of the industry in our town.
“The talk includes original videos of the Forge Mill Needle Museum.”
It’s followed on Monday, September 13 with a talk on The Windsors by club chair Don Vincent.
Anthony said: “Don is in the top tier of experts on Bordesley Abbey and its related history.
“In this presentation he looks at the family who were forced by Henry VIII into giving up their lands and property in London and accepting a swap with the Bordesley Abbey possessions.
“Thus, the Windsors became our local aristocracy and had a big influence on the town.”
Future talks cover researching family history and much more.
Non-members welcome at an entry of £3 refundable against the membership fee of £10.
