Hard-working Redditch Councillor to lead Labour at County Hall

Redditch Editorial 11th May, 2018   0

ROBIN Lunn, the Redditch County Councillor at the forefront of battling the disruption caused by developers in Webheath has been elected leader of the Labour Group at County Hall.

Coun Lunn (Redditch North) takes over from Bromsgrove’s Coun Peter McDonald (Lab, Beacon) who has retired from the role.

Coun Lunn, a highly respected representative of the people of Redditch has been a councillor for nine years:

He said: “On behalf of the Labour Group, we would like to put on record our appreciation to Peter McDonald for his nine years as Labour Group Leader.

“His tireless holding of the County Council Leaders to account, his immense passion and desire to fight for the services and well being of the people of Worcestershire, will be difficult to match.

“He had the strength of his convictions to never flinch from telling people what they needed to hear, and we are deeply grateful to have served with him.

“We all look forward to his continued service as a member of the County Council.”

Coun Lunn will continue the work of his predecessor to hold the ruling Conservative Group to account on the three key areas:

1) Council Finances and Services.

2) Adult Social Care.

3) Children’s Services.

“The Council continues to face severe financial challenges, primarily caused by the continued policy of austerity and cutting back of funding from the Government,” said Coun Lunn.

“The funding for local government is 49 per cent lower in 2018 than it was in 2010, and inevitably that has taken a major toll on services.

“This will only get worse and we need to fight constantly to improve the quality of people’s lives and assist those who most need assistance. The very model of what civic leadership should be about.

“As well as opposing, we also need to continue to develop policies to do things better in serving the people of Worcestershire and looking after our staff. I relish this challenge.”
