Hard working MP is making waves at Westminster and at home

RACHEL Maclean, MP for Redditch, is working hard for her constituents – and that’s official.

After having been in office now for nearly nine months, official figures show her to be among the top performers in a number of areas.

House of Commons Library figures show she is 49th out of 637 MPs, with 114 contributions to debates since the beginning of the current Parliament.

This Wednesday, in advance of International Women’s Day on March 8, she was called to ask her first Prime Minister’s Question, asking Theresa May to acknowledge the ground-breaking work carried out by Conservative Governments to promote the interests of women in society – including having two female Prime Ministers.

Since elected last June, she has received some 50,000 e-mails and sent out thousands of letters and e-mails responding in reply.

“Most MPs work very hard – this is definitely a lifestyle choice rather than a job, and certainly more so than any other job that I’ve ever done!” said Mrs Maclean.

“I have been in office for nearly nine months now, and it’s been a whirlwind, and I fully appreciate that there are different measures of hard work, but hopefully constituents will appreciate that I am continually striving to put out the name of Redditch and issues surrounding it in Parliament.”
