THEY’RE all under starter’s orders at The Sportsman pub where the landlord has carpeted the entire bar area with real turf in honour of Royal Ascot week.
Landlord Damian Docherty and his wife Maxine are both racing fans and felt the Peakman Street watering hole should live up to its sporting name.
“This is a big racing town, my brother in law used to be a jockey, and so I thought why not give it a go,” said Damian, who has also decked the walls with jockey colours and silks.
The decision has proved a hit with the locals too.
Regular John Pearce said: “I couldn’t believe it at first when I saw it, but my goodness it is absolutely fantastic!”
