Gifts make it an early White Christmas for Redditch Salvation Army

THE Redditch branch of the Salvation Army was treated to an early Christmas present this year thanks to the big hearted cast of Redditch Operatic Society (ROS).

The group, currently rehearsing for their latest show ‘White Christmas’ which opens next week, took time out to donate around £400 worth of toys, games, clothing, gifts, toiletries and vouchers to the charity which helps provide disadvantaged children with a present at Christmas.

Staff from the Salvation Army visited the society last Tuesday to collect the donations from ROS members, before meeting the cast and taking the opportunity to watch the group run through the show.

“I am very proud to be part of this society and work with such generous people,” said Kelly-Louise Mitchell from ROS.

“Behind all the dancing, costumes and classic Irving Berlin songs, White Christmas is about helping other people and showing you care, so it seemed only right to help the Salvation Army with their Christmas Present Appeal.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal is an annual drive to collect new toys and gifts for underprivileged babies, children and young people in the local area who might not otherwise receive a present at Christmas.

The gifts are then wrapped and distributed to those in need.

Over the years, millions of children and young people across the country have benefited from gifts donated to The Salvation Army.

Linda Sayner from Redditch Salvation Army said: “We can’t thank Redditch Operatic Society enough for this generous donation.

“We believe every child deserves to receive a new gift at Christmas and this donation will help make a real difference to the lives of children who might not get anything otherwise.”

ROS perform their sparkling new production of the Irving Berlin classic at the Palace Theatre from November 20-24 (including a Saturday matinee).

Based on the well-loved film, the heart-warming tale of joy and goodwill is full of timeless classics such as Blue Skies, Sisters, I Love a Piano, How Deep is the Ocean and, of course, everyone’s favourite title song.

Tickets are selling fast but some are still available from the Palace Theatre box office or call them on 01527 65203 or book online at www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk/
