A YOUNG lad living with cerebral palsy has been honoured for working tirelessly to improve his independence and mobility.

St Bede’s Catholic Middle School pupil, William Hall, and his teaching assistant, Ian Hatton, both scooped prizes at the ‘SEND Generation CAN Awards’ at Worcester Arena, on July 11.

The annual ceremony shines a light on people who show remarkable resilience when faced with adversity.

William picked up the ‘Sensation Award’ for his positive life philosophy, and refusal to give up.

He said: “I have conquered the anxieties I had in the past.

“I do not let my mind get carried away about the future because the future is what I make of it.”

Meanwhile Ian picked up the ‘Wonder Award’ for providing a level of support and care deemed ‘second to none’.

He was told his work changes students’ lives for the better.

St Bede’s special educational needs co-ordinator, Martin West, said: “We are so proud of both our winners who were able to enjoy and celebrate the evening with their families.”
