Fun for all at open day at Redditch's hidden moated manor house

A COMMUNITY fun day is to be held at an ancient monument site in Moons Moat.

The site, the location of a moated medieval manor house in Church Hill South, is currently being tidied up and preserved by the Moons Moat Conservation, and is reached via Arley Close in Church Hill South.

A ten year programme has been launched to manage the site with the borough council and raise awareness of its significance for local residents and tourists.

The fun day, on Saturday, September 22 will offer people perhaps a first chance to visit the site, hidden away in the middle of a housing estate.

Running from 11am to 3pm it will feature craft and produce stalls, face painting, displays of historic artefacts, a barbecue and much more.

It’s being backed by Church Hill Big Local Partnership, Moons Moat Conservation Group and Redditch Local History Society.

People will also be able to learn more about plans to develop the site for the benefit of the community, key features of the town’s history and activities to promote it.

On display will also be proposals for new interpretation boards for the site and ambitious plans for a community wildlife garden and forest school adjacent to the site.

Children’s activities on the day will include a bouncy castle, round-about, face painting and other games whilst the adults will be able to browse stalls by other local groups, craft people and local produce vendors.

Derek Coombes, acting chairman of MMCG said: “We are very excited that Redditch Borough Council is working with us to maintain the site and have agreed plans to explore developing a site to the east of the Moat as a Community Garden and Forest School.

“We are keen to look for support from local businesses, particularly those which operate from the adjacent Moons Moat Industrial Estate, and we will be approaching these as possible to sponsors.

“We will also be launching a crowd funding appeal so local Redditch residents can each make small, but important donations and feel part of the projects.”
