THERE was dancing, music and much more as people flocked to the annual Apple Day celebration at the orchard on Headless Cross Green last Saturday.

Gallons of apple juice were pressed by youngsters, Bob Wardell won the cider contest with his ‘Chilli Cider’, there was clog dancing from the Nancy Butterfly Morris Dancers, drama from outdoor theatre company Fabularium and local ward Councillor and Borough Mayor Roger Bennett unveiled ‘The Sun King’ – artwork by the orchard’s artist in resident Sharon Sheward.

Local volunteer Alistair Waugh said: “We were bowled-over by how fruitful this year’s Apple Day was.

“It truly was an amazing turn-out, despite the overcast weather.

“We’re all volunteers who run this event and none of this would be possible without them.

“The success of Apple Day shows that there’s appetite in Redditch for making a difference, enjoying local food, and getting involved with projects that celebrate what we do well in our communities. – enjoying ourselves, sharing ideas and supporting each other.”

“Next year is the 10th Birthday of Headless Cross Community Orchard, and we’re planning a big party on Midsummers Day. So look-out for that.”
