FORMER Redditch Jacqui Smith has been confirmed as the 12th and final contestant on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Ms Smith, aged 57, served as the town’s MP for more than 10 years until she was defeated in the 2010 General Election by Karen Lumley.
She was also the UK’s first female Home Secretary, serving from 2007 to 2009 under Labour’s Gordon Brown.
Following the announcement this afternoon, Malvern-born Ms Smith said: “Well this is all a bit exciting!”
A BBC spokesperson tweeted: “Getting ready to govern the dance floor. Jacqui Smith is making Strictly her new constituency.”
