Foodbank launches reverse advent calendar to boost stocks for Christmas

Redditch Editorial 1st Nov, 2019   0

REDDITCH Foodbank have launched their reverse festive advent calendar – to be used in November!

Manager Laura Kyte said last year’s reverse calendar – where people give foodstuffs to the foodbank rather than opening a ‘window’ and receiving something, had been phenomenally successful.

However its very success brought problems: “Last year we struggled to manage the number of donations coming to us right up until Christmas Eve,” she said.

“We had no capacity for storage nor human resources for distribution.

“So if people are interested in supporting Redditch Foodbank with food donations this year, we wondered if you might consider following a reverse advent calendar but during the month of November!”

The pressure on the foodbank has never been greater with Laura reporting a 43 per cent increase in users during the last 12 months alone.

By doing the reverse advent calendar in November she said they were hoping to get food early enough to meet demand.

An example of the calendar can be found at www.redditch.foodbank.org.uk.

Redditch Foodbank is operated by the local charity Acts of Kindness.

People can also help by donating at the foodbank’s three day supermarket collection at Tesco from November 21-23.
