Flag flies proudly at County Hall ahead of Armed Forces Week launch

THE ARMED Forces flag is now flying proudly above County Hall as Worcestershire gears up to pay tribute to the contribution of UK servicemen and women both now and in the past.

A short socially distanced ceremony this morning to mark the start of this year’s Armed Forces Week was attended by Coun Rob Adams, Chairman of Worcestershire’s Armed Forces Covenant Partnership, Coun Peter Tomlinson, Chairman of Worcestershire County Council, and Brigadier Roger Brunt, Deputy Lieutenant

Coun Adams said: “Coronavirus may have stopped us marking Armed Forces Week in style through planned events that were due to take place across the county this year.

“Therefore, it’s imperative that we raise the Armed Forces flag as a symbol and fitting tribute for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – our serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans and cadet forces.”

As well as continuing with their defence tasks at home and across the World, some 20,000 members of the Armed Forces are playing a vital part in the national effort to combat the Coronavirus pandemic working alongside the NHS in strategic and frontline roles.

“It is important, more than ever this year, that we acknowledge the outstanding contribution the Armed Forces make to our nation,” added Coun Adams.

Different aspects will be honoured each day this week, including innovation, reserves, veterans and cadets, culminating with Armed Forces Day this Saturday, June 27.

Although events have been cancelled there are still plenty of ways to show support – #SaluteOurForces is a social media campaign where businesses and the public can post and dedicate salutes online.
