Members of Redditch Labour celebrate after completing counselling course

FIVE members of Redditch Labour Party are celebrating after completing a counselling training course on mental health.

The Level 3 recognition will prepare the members for being a professional counsellor in an agency setting.

The training was held over a number of months and, due to Covid-restrictions, sessions were held remotely via Zoom.

Organiser Councillor Joseph Baker of Omega Therapies in Hewell Road, said: “During the first lockdown we set up a care team to help those who were isolated and needed help with shopping, collecting prescriptions and other essential items.

“It became apparent that in addition to this practical help people needed someone to talk to and share their problems.

“The number of people seeking mental health support has increased due to the pandemic.

“This qualification will empower the team to offer that support.”

Group members Andrea Berry, Helen Cartwright, Sharon Harvey, Juma Begum and Sid Khan added how pleased they were to complete the course.

In a joint statement they said: “We enjoyed this opportunity given to us by Omega Therapies as it not only gave us an opportunity to make friends during this difficult time but we also learned new skills, while helping other people.”

They will move on to Level 4 in the New Year.
