FIT Bits and Boobs, an education and exercise programme for people living with or beyond a diagnosis of breast cancer, is set to start in Redditch.

Redditch Borough Council’s sports development officers have been working with breast cancer nurses from the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and Bosom Friends’ Support Group to put the programme together.

It will cover relaxation, managing anxiety and fatigue, nutrition and the exercise component which concentrate on increasing mobility, stretching and specific rehab moves for breast cancer including lymph oedema.

The borough’s physical activity development officer Hayley Gwilliam said: “Research has shown that exercise is critical in the recovery process for breast cancer patients.

“We have created a programme which is designed to restore and improve the physical well-being of those living with breast cancer as they undergo treatments.

“People living with cancer can also access our Live Well, Be Well programme at the Abbey Stadium where we have a Cancer Rehab specialist.”

Fit Bits and Boobs starts on Tuesday June 18 at Oakenshaw Community Centre, Castleditch Lane, at 2.30pm and costs £3.30.
