'Faith restored' after firefighters rescue son trapped in locked car

A MUM says her ‘faith in humanity has been restored’ after her toddler was rescued from inside a locked car.

Roxy Cockerill-Maher was on her early morning break at Bromsgrove’s Kimal PLC when she got a terrifying phone call.

She said: “My wife Emma rang me and told me that she had accidentally locked our 20-month-old son Wyatt in the car.

“She was doing a shop at Bromsgrove Asda and had left the car key inside the boot after she closed it.”

Panicked, Roxy rushed over to the car park to see if she could help.

Asda’s manager, aware of the situation, decided to call in the fire service.

“I didn’t get any names but the manager, along with an off-duty paramedic, stayed with us the entire time,” said Roxy.

“Once the fire service arrived they attempted to get in by placing a wire down the side of the door.

“But after trying for nearly two hours without success they realised it was time to break one of the windows.”

The off-duty paramedic called a car garage in Redditch and asked which window would be the cheapest to replace.

“She was so kind to go through all that trouble just to help save us a few bob,” said Roxy.

Following the break-in, baby Wyatt was pulled to safety and her parents say they have never been so relieved.

“The Asda manager brought out bacon sandwiches for everyone to enjoy and also offered to pay for the window repair,” said Roxy.

“It goes to show there are some wonderful people out there who will go out of their way to help others.

“I can’t thank them enough.”
