Facelift gives more parking space as Redditch bulldozes old garages

PARKING improvement schemes for the new year in Redditch have been announced – at the unveiling of the Borough Council’s latest completed works.

The improvements in Exhall Close (North) in Church Hill have created around 30 new car parking spaces, improved old parking spaces, created several wheelie bin storage areas, and helped clean up the area.

These were the 12th set of improvements in a council public realm scheme that has been bringing residents improved parking since 2009, in projects ranging from £10,000 to £150,000.

The next project, in Clifton Close, Matchborough, where garages are being removed and 12 new parking spaces created, has almost been complete.

“We’re delighted to announce the next tranche of parking improvements,” said Councillor Brandon Clayton, the Borough’s portfolio holder for environmental services.

“Bit by bit we’re doing them all and we know parking is key for so many residents.

“Next year we can confirm the programme is due to visit Willow Way, Abbotswood Close, Ashton Close, and Foxlydiate Lane, and there may be more to follow.”

Under the scheme the borough council transforms pockets of older infrastructure in consultation with residents, turning under-used garages or awkward or ageing areas into cleaner, safer spaces better fit for people’s needs today.
