AN ELDERLY man had to be rescued by firefighters and was taken to hospital after his car became lodged under a tanker at Morrisons Petrol Station in Clearwell Road, Redditch.

Fire crews from Redditch, Droitwich and Evesham were sent to the scene around 11.20am yesterday.

They had carefully use a turfor winch and hydraulic equipment to first remove the car from underneath the petrol tanker before freeing the man from the car.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, HART paramedics, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham with a doctor and paramedic on board to the scene.

The driver of the car  received trauma care for serious injuries before being stabilised and taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further trauma care.
