Crochet commandos carry out Jubilee blitz on local post boxes

Redditch Editorial 2nd Jun, 2022   0

STUDLEY’S been hit by a blitz of ‘random acts of crochet kindness’.

After getting a very smart new ‘hat’ to mark Easter, the post box outside the Tesco store on Alcester Road has received a makeover in time for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

And it wasn’t alone as the post box at the top of High Street / start of Station Road also got a smart new crocheted top ready for the double bank holiday.

The perpetrators of random acts of crochet kindness are sworn to anonymity but one broke cover to explain her motives.

“I’ve been trying to crochet since January, following videos on YouTube, specifically to do the post box on Station Road,” she said.

“I’ve since linked up with the person who did the one outside Tesco and she is doing an amazing job.”

It’s led to some commando style operations too, namely nipping out in the dead of night to measure the top of the post box to make sure it’s a snug fit.

“The last thing you want is to do all that work and discover it doesn’t fit…” she said.

Random acts of crochet kindness are springing up all over the world and even saw a crocheted ‘worry worm’ left outside the Redditch Standard editor’s house last week.

“It’s just a kind thing to do to perk people up in the village and to make you smile,” said our contact.
