Countdown to Redditch Carnival begins

Lise Evans 19th Sep, 2024 Updated: 25th Sep, 2024   0

A DAY of family entertainment is less than 48 hours away as Redditch Carnival gets ready to roll into town.

From noon on Saturday, September 21, a carnival fun day will take place in the town centre and feature food stalls, stands, and musical performances around the band stand.

At its heart will be Tommy Wilson’s funfair which arrived at Church Green East on Thursday and will operate its head spinning rides until Saturday evening.

A parade featuring floats, vehicles and bikes themed on family films will be setting off at 2.30pm from Birchfield playing fields, in Headless Cross before picking up walkers and bands at Redditch Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Squash.

A highlight of the day will be the royalty float, and visitors will get to meet for the first time the people successfully nominated as the Redditch Royal Party of 2024 last month.

This year’s Carnival King is Mike Welsh who will be accompanied by Carnival Queen Naomi Beckford. Also in the royal group is Junior Redditch Jessica Davies.

They will be joined by last year’s carnival queen Tia Payne who was crowned as Miss Redditch and Miss Junior Redditch Marley Beckford.

Event lead Jo Bussey said: “We all can’t wait to see the Redditch community come out in force to enjoy and support the carnival parade. There will be lots going on up town for all to enjoy with stalls, entertainment, performances at the bandstand and of course Wilson’s fair.”

Motorists should be aware that there will be temporary road closures between 2.30pm and 5.30pm along the route to allow the parade floats and walkers to continue along the Bromsgrove Road before arriving at the bottom of Unicorn Hill between 3.15pm and 3.30pm.

From there it will travel up the hill and along Church Green West and Easemore Road, before turning right into Archer Road and on to Grove Street and before ending at Trinity High School.

The organising team are still keen to encourage anyone wishing to volunteer on the day to sign in on the day at 1pm at Birchfield playing fields, Headless Cross. For more information search ‘Redditch Carnival’ on Facebook.
