Competition puts the town in the frame

RESIDENTS are being urged to snap the perfect picture of what Redditch means to them as part of a spec-tacular photographic competition.

The Standard has teamed up with Specsavers in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre to launch the contest to mark the 50th anniversary of Redditch’s status as a new town.

There are £500 worth of Jessops vouchers up for grabs for the winning photographer and a pair of designer specs* for each of the two runners-up. A selection of entries will also go on show in the centre as part of the week-long celebration of the anniversary which runs from July 26 to August 3.

Entries can be of anything which the photographer feels represents Redditch as it is to them today whether it’s a location like Arrow Valley Park, a structure like the bandstand or an event.

Ian Bowers, store director at Specsavers in Redditch, said: “This is a milestone year for Redditch and what better way to celebrate, and of course capture it, than by asking local photographers to showcase their talent.

“We ran the competition a few years ago and it went down really well, with so many fantastic entries that it was hard to chose a winner.”

Only digital photographs will be accepted either on CD or by email but please note pictures cannot be returned.

The closing date for entries is Friday, June 20 at 5pm. Pictures should be sent to Life Thru a Lens 50th anniversary Photographic Competition, Webb House, Church Green East, Redditch, B98 8BP or email [email protected] with photo competition in the subject heading.

Entries should also include name, age, address, daytime phone number and details of where the picture was taken.

Over the next few weeks, the Standard will print a selection of entries until the closing date when Standard editor Ian Dipple and Mr Bowers, will select the Redditch Specsavers Photographer of the Year 2014.
