Come on England! Redditch fans head for Russia to cheer on the team

Redditch Editorial 1st Jun, 2018   0

TWENTY football mad fans from Redditch will be travelling together to Russia to see England play in the World Cup finals later this month.

The group is made up of members from the Redditch branch of Birmingham City FC Supporters Club – and are known as the ‘Redditch Blues’.

Every single member, including Peter Courts, from Lineholt Close in Oakenshaw have official tickets for all of the England games leading up to the final.

Mr Courts said: “Several of us are travelling over to stay for the whole competition.

“A dozen others will be travelling over for just part of it, but they can choose what games they want to see.

“As a group we started following England after Birmingham City won the Carling Cup.

“It became a bit of a fun and we traveled across Europe watching England games.

“I’m so excited, it’s just a few weeks away now and I can’t wait to get out there and support our country.

“I think we will do well but you never know.”

Last December’s draw put England in Group G with Belgium, Tunisia and Panama.

All three of the games have been scheduled at times which will please those staying back in Blighty.

Considerable controversy has surrounded Russia’s hosting of the World Cup finals 2018, from Jun 14 to July 15.

Britons have been warned to beware of possible anti-British sentiment, but the Foreign Office says people should be sensible and remember to be ‘good guests’.

For anyone unable to travel to Russia – England’s first game against Tunisa (June 18) will be shown live on Terrestrial TV and Yotube.
