Coffee and cakes in Redditch fundraiser for Afghan refugees

A COFFEE morning and cake sale is to be held to raise funds for Afghan refugees who will shortly be settled in the Worcestershire.

Organised by Redditch Afghan Refugee Support it promises to be a great opportunity to get together for a very good cause.

The event will run from 10am until midday on Saturday, November 27 at the Ecumenical Centre in Evesham Walk in Redditch town centre.

There will be hot and cold drinks, cakes and a fantastic tombola as well as good company.

Nicki Farnes, Ecumenical Centre manager, said: “My husband served in the British Army in Afghanistan, and as a result we have many good friends who have had to leave the dangers of a country ruled by the Taliban to make a new home in the UK.

“Worcestershire has promised to welcome over 200 Afghan refugees over the next few years – which is great news.”

A government funding programme covers the basic needs of the Afghan families so money raised at this event will be ringfenced by Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees and used to purchase items or services which are not covered by State funding.

This might include anything to equip and prepare them for new jobs or for school.
