Clean diet is a real feast for charity

A CHARITY worker will be cutting out sugary and processed food for a whole year in a bid to raise money.

Rebecca Hyder has promised not to eat chocolate, biscuits and crisps or drink alcohol or tea for 52 weeks. The idea came about due to her long-running digestive issues but she decided to combine the experiment with awareness-raising for Onside Independent Advocacy.

The Crabbs Cross resident has worked for the charity, which was set up in the 1990s to provide support for vulnerable people, for three years on their mental health related projects.

To begin with, she will eat only a very basic list of ingredients for a few weeks in what is known as the ‘elimination and healing’ part of the FODMAP diet, which is now used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome as it cuts out the common triggers. After this Rebecca will add in different foods every few days but nothing which is processed.

She said: “Onside is very dear to my heart for many reasons and not only because of the incredible support they offer to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, but also because they also reflect that same caring ethos within the organisation.

“I have two overall aims, to raise money for Onside and to use this year to change my diet to suit my body and then to continue with a balanced, low-inflammatory diet.”
