IT’S a bit chilly around the ears now for Redditch coach driver Mark Williams who had his hair and beard shaved off for Macmillan Cancer Support.
“I started work at 1am on Tuesday morning and had to wear a hat it was so cold,” said Mark from Church Hill.
“It was very strange and no word of a lie, I was standing around with people at work and it wasn’t until I spoke that they recognised me.”
Mark was galvanised into action after seeing the care and devotion Macmillan staff gave to his father in law as he battled cancer.
Inspired, he decided to go the whole hog, having his head and his beard of 14 years shaved off.
“My wife Sue pretty much lets me do what I want with my face but she’s glad the beard has gone and says it’s taken ten years off me,” said Mark.
Setting himself a target of raising £2,000 for Macmillan, he’s already smashed that total with one £250 donation coming in from New Road Dental Practice in Bromsgrove.
“It’s extremely weird seeing myself in the mirror now – I feel and look like a 5ft 10 new-born baby,” he said.
