YEAR 5 children at Birchensale Middle School enjoyed a unique day full of new experiences and activities on July 19.

Teachers from the school appealed to local companies and volunteers from the community to provide activities for the students get involved in.

Children chose four different activities, including one they had never done before, out of a possible 10 choices on offer.

They picked from boxing, taekwondo, cricket, sewing, bushcraft, retro games, watercolours, design, drama and singing.

On July 20 the school was visited by representatives from different public services.

Guests included the police, fire service, army officers and the air ambulance.

Oliver Cooke, event organiser and teacher at Birchensale Middle School, said: “The activity day and public services morning have been the highlight of the school year for the pupils.

“It’s been so rewarding to see each and every child with a smile on their face discovering yet another skill they are amazing at.

“The two days would not have been possible without the generosity of the volunteers who gave up their time to provide these children a fantastic experience.”
