AN INSPIRATIONAL survivor of the Cambodian Genocide will be coming to Redditch on Saturday to mark National Holocaust Memorial Day.

Sokphal Din will be on hand to speak about his experience at the Town Hall Council Chamber at 11am after a procession takes place through the town.

The procession will start at the Town Hall at 10.30am and will move towards the Holocaust Memorial Marker on Church Green for 10.35am.

They will then walk through the Kingfisher Shopping Centre at 10.45am before heading back to the Town Hall for Sokphal’s talk and performances from Redditch choir groups.

Coun Matt Dormer, leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “Through Holocaust Memorial Day we honour the memory of victims of genocide and atrocity in the world, and stand together as a community to ensure that we do not allow such things to occur again.

“All are welcome and behalf of the council I’d like to thank all the partners from across Redditch who are involved in the event, from the schools and the choirs to the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, as we continue to listen and learn from the past.”

Holocaust Memorial Day itself is on Sunday January 27 this year.
