Carer in Redditch praised by colleagues and clients for going 'above and beyond'

A CARER in Redditch has been praised by colleagues and her clients for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Samantha Summers, who has worked at Home Instead Senior Care Redditch and Bromsgrove since 2018, provides personalised care and companionship for elderly people in their own homes.

A client of Samantha’s was told she would never walk again following a severe stroke last year.

But after Samantha, aged 52, encouraged her client to do more physio exercises each day, the lady has become more mobile and is even able to walk with a frame.

Home Instead owner Annie Dixon Dunn has described Samantha as ‘one of a kind’.

“We need more people like her,” she said, “Especially as recent statistics show that by 2035 there will be more than 650,000 vacancies in the care sector.

“It is extremely important to highlight roles within the industry.”

Samantha’s gets out of bed each day because she ‘feels passionate’ about the quality of care that elderly people should receive.

“Life is too short, so you need to make the most of what you want to do,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter how old you are or the illness you are suffering from, dignity and respect must always be maintained.”
