Cannabis factory busted as Redditch cops raid address in Mount Pleasant

THE first thing that hits is the smell, and then the heat.

We’re at a small terrace house in Mount Pleasant and there’s police cars and a van outside and a cannabis factory inside.

Through the front door there’s a living room to the left and behind another door right in front are steep steps up to the first floor.

To the right is a preparation room, then a growing room containing about 30 plants under lights and on shelves and further along a drying room for more of the drug.

Holes have been knocked in walls and ceiling for venting pipes and electricity cables to run through, and police are wary of touching anything until the building is made safe.

“This was part of an ongoing operation but we cannot say at the moment who was involved,” said the officer leading the team, PC Lloyd Stone from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

The house was raided at 8.30am on Monday morning, July 22, police acting on a tip off.

The action comes amid mounting concern over drug abuse in the Mount Pleasant area.

“We have intelligence on a number of these, and we are working through it,” said PC Stone.

“We want to get the message out there that we are on to the people who grow and use drugs in Redditch.”
