Call for volunteers to help Redditch Foodbank's supermarket sweep

Redditch Editorial 29th Sep, 2018   0

AN appeal has gone out for more volunteers to help Redditch Foodbank at supermarket collections.

The call comes from foodbank manager Laura Keyte after a successful collection at the Asda store in Jinnah Road last Saturday.

Big hearted shoppers were more than happy to do their bit, buying up items on a list of required foodstuffs to re-stock the foodbank’s shelves to help those less fortunate than themselves.

“The collection went really well,” said Laura. “We haven’t got the final figures in yet but people were very generous and they clearly bought from the list we handed out, which was great.”

However with a three-day collection at Tesco on the horizon in the run-up to Christmas Laura said more help would be needed.

“We have a collection organised for Thursday to Saturday, November 29/30/ and December 1 if people would like to volunteer as we are always looking for those who can help either on a one-off or regular basis,” she said.

“It’s approaching Christmas and we need to be ready to respond to emergency cases and try to make up some hampers – we would welcome donations and extra pairs of hands to help.”

Donations of foodstuff can be dropped off at Redditch Foodbank in St Stephen’s Church in the town centre, or left in specially marked collection bins at the exit to Asda.
