Call for rising star to take the role of Susan in White Christmas at the Palace

Redditch Editorial 21st May, 2018   0

REDDITCH Operatic Society (ROS) are on the lookout for two girls to share the principal role of Susan in their 2018 production of White Christmas.

After a sell-out production of Sister Act last year, the company will be performing the Irving Berlin classic from Tuesday to Saturday November 20-24 at the Palace Theatre, with rehearsals starting mid-June and running until November.

Much like in the 1954 film starring Bing Crosby, Susan is the granddaughter of retired army general, Henry Waverly, and lives with him in his Vermont inn. She is smart, kind and confident, but never cocky, and is devoted to her grandfather, but worries about his failing business.

She is wise beyond her years, but has a soft and loveable side and represents the child’s perspective in the show.

Further details around Susan’s character and audition pieces can be viewed here: www.redditch-operatic.co.uk/susan.htm

ROS are looking for two youngsters, with a playing age of 12 to 14 years (actual age can be older), to share the role of Susan, taking on three of the six performances each.

Previous experience is not necessary but applicants should be confident performers with a strong singing voice and be able to move well.

Auditions will take place from 1.30pm on Sunday, June 10 at Astwood Bank Primary School, B96 6EH.

All interested parties should book their audition slots in advance, no later than Thursday, June 8.

ROS director and chair Tony Jay said: “This is a great opportunity for two talented youngsters to take a major role in this sparkling new production, and we welcome all enquiries and applications.

“If you think your child could shine in the role of Susan, please do get in touch.”

Applicants must be generally available on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7.30pm. However, a rehearsal schedule will be produced; holidays will be taken into account, and the girls will not necessarily be called every single week.

Applicants must not be involved in any other activities, including at school, that would make them miss Tuesday or Thursday rehearsals from the start of October onwards.

Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays at Community House, 103 Easemore Road, Redditch, B98 8EY and on Thursdays at Astwood Bank Primary School, Church Road, Astwood Bank, B96 6EH.
