BREAKING- Prime Minister Boris Johnson wins confidence vote

Redditch Editorial 6th Jun, 2022 Updated: 6th Jun, 2022   0

PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has won his confidence vote after the majority of Conservative MPs backed him in tonight’s poll.

Mr Johnson had 211 voting for him and 148 voting against him.

The vote was announced early this morning after a sufficient number of letters of no confidence meant the threshold had been passed.

Earlier today Redditch MP Rachel Maclean announced she would be backing the PM.

Mrs Maclean said: “Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, we have secured a £16.6 million Town Deal for Redditch – one of the single largest Government investments in Redditch since it became a new town in the 1960s.

“He also delivered our exit from the EU, more police on our streets, the NHS is receiving record amounts of funding and our Alexandra Hospital is set to benefit from a multi-million pound investment.

“The mistakes the Prime Minister made were serious and the behaviour exposed in the Sue Gray report was wrong. However, he has taken responsibility, apologised and put in place measures to prevent them from recurring.

Mrs Maclean added that she believed efforts must now be focused on issues including growing the economy and creating high-skilled, high-wage jobs.

The number of no confidence letters came after the ‘Partygate’ scandal which has plagued the party over the past few months and the long-awaited publication of Sue Gray’s report into the lockdown get-togethers at Number 10, along with pictures and details of what happened at the gatherings.
