Brand new cafe and toilets to open at Redditch's Morton Stanley Park tomorrow

THE NEW Morton Stanley Park Cafe and toilets will officially open to the public from 9.30am tomorrow (Saturday, July 9).

A raft of work has been carried out on the building, including infrastructure and fitting out.

The project was undertaken in collaboration with modular building contractor Wernick and civils contractor Kelbec which worked with the council’s leisure, engineering, legal and facilities teams.

James and Rosie, who have a wealth of experience and knowledge in running a park cafe, were chosen to run the cafe after the council’s procurement process.

The pair are looking forward to meeting and greeting visitors and have a range of light refreshments on offer.

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services, Coun Jo Beecham, said she was excited for the cafe opening.

“From having nothing at all in the park to now having the infrastructure, toilets, cafe, and James and Rosie to run it, we’ve come a very long way. “

And she added it was great the cafe and toilets were opening just in time for the school holidays.

“Morton Stanley is a fantastic park, and these new facilities mean our residents can now enjoy it for longer.”

Council leader, Coun Matt Dormer, said the opening was ‘much-anticipated’.

“A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this point and I must thank everyone involved in making it happen.

“These new facilities are a true example of how we are unlocking Redditch.”

The council added Morton Stanley was one of Redditch Borough Council’s flagship parks and occupied a prominent position, providing an important ‘green lung’ for the community.

The park has a history of Green Flag status and enjoys multiple attractions, which include a recently revamped toddler and junior play area, teen risky play, skate park, football pitches, changing rooms along with extensive wildflower meadows (sustained by the commitment and hard work of the Midweek Volunteers) and woodland walks.

Many visitors use the popular green venue for a variety of reasons, including community events and sporting activities.
