Borough Councillor John Fisher pours his creative energy into new single

A SINGLE on release and an album in the works – Redditch Borough Councillor John Fisher is making waves on the music front as well as at the Town Hall.

The Labour finance guru, who represents Matchborough ward, kept the council on an even keel before his party lost power two years ago.

Now he’s gone back to his 80s musical roots with the release of a single – Waterfall – which is available on all music platforms.

“I’ve always been interested in dance music and pop music in all its flavours,” said John, a fan of New Order and Pet Shop Boys.

“However the tracks on the album are all quite varied, there’s some big electric guitar and strings in there too.”

The father of two is no stranger to the music business either.

Back in the day he recorded with his brothers in a band called The Fishers and later in the group Flesh and Blood at Workshop Studios in Millsboro House.

“We had some close encounters with being successful in the music business and Sting’s manager once offered to buy one of my songs,” said John.

However with a family to raise and a business to run – as well as being a politician – music took a back seat, until 2020 and lockdown.

“These have been difficult times for everybody and doing something you want to do, being creative, is really important to help people through the current crisis. I know it’s helped me,” he said.

The studio recorded album has John doing all the programming and production too.

“I’ve had such fun doing it I’m thinking I’ll give the proceeds from the album sales to charity,” he said.

“My sons said, whatever you do, don’t put a picture of yourself on the cover.”
