YOUNGSTERS at Birchensale Middle School are getting in shape thanks to the introduction of the ‘Morning Mile’.
The concept, which started is Scotland, is simple – to help the children burn off excessive energy and get fitter before the school bell rings and lessons begin.
Led by teacher Sarah Dolby, more than 100 pupils have signed up for the Morning Mile, which is the equivalent of ten times round the playground. It’s the taking part that’s important and the youngsters don’t have to complete the full ten to feel the benefit.
“We noticed we had a lot of pupils arriving early in school and thought this would be a good way to focus their energy and get them ready for the start of the school day,” said spokeswoman Anne Willis.
