Bikes, beer and music! - Fundraising starts for GlastonBeoley festival 2019

SEVERAL months of fundraising to cover the costs of hosting the 2019 GlastonBeoley music festival begin in earnest this weekend, with a 24 hour cyclathon and live music at the Beoley Village Inn.

The fixed cycling marathon starts at 8pm this Saturday, September 22, and will continue through to 8pm the following day.

Volunteers will work in teams, covering 30 minute slots throughout the 24 hours. Both evenings have live music –

Saturday evening sees Imaner, Noot, Take Cover and Garth Kirkham providing entertainment from 8pm while on Sunday an ‘open mic’ night has Chris Bicknell, The Fisheads and Keep Me Posted taking to the stage from 4.30pm, with more slots available for budding musicians.

All of proceeds raised will go towards the costs of running the 2019 festival.

GlastonBeoley 2018 saw more than 1,200 music fans flock to the parish field in Beoley to listen to over 20 music acts who gave their talents for free, in turn raising £10,000 that was split between Deafblind UK and The Mental Health Foundation.

Festival organiser and musician Debbie Joynes of Beoley, said: “We are delighted that the Village Inn has volunteered to kick off our fundraising efforts by suggesting and hosting this cycathlon.

“Every single penny raised this weekend will be ploughed into the running costs of the festival – such as staging, lighting and PA systems – meaning we will be able to use all the proceeds from festival ticket sales to support our 2019 chosen charities.

“We are very lucky to have a fabulous committee of volunteers and of course our wonderful supporting musicians, who all give their time and talents for free.”

After calls for suggestions on which local and national charities to support for 2019 the official announcement will be made on Saturday evening at the Village Inn.

A number of headline sponsorship packages are available for 2019; more information can be obtained by emailing [email protected].

A ‘Go Fund Me’ page to pool monies raised from all the upcoming fundraising events – and for anyone who would like to support the running of the festival – is at https://www.gofundme.com/glastonbeoley-music-festival which will be available up until next June.

The festival date is set for Saturday, June 9, 2019.

An update on how much the Village Inn raised towards GlastonBeoley will be available after the event; the next fundraising evening will be a music quiz at the Beoley Village Hall on Saturday, October 13 from 7.30pm.
